David Rosenberg, known in England as David Ross, was born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1928. David was 16 years old when Hitler invaded Belgium. David lost 24 members of his close family who mostly perished in Auschwitz and other camps.
Initially he escaped to unoccupied France, but after a narrow escape, David’s Mother made the heart-breaking decision that her two sons, David and Sami, should seek safety in Spain. The two boys, aged 14 and 16 managed to cross the Pyrenees, but were caught and held in prison.
David eventually made his way to England, and joined the RAF.
David settled close to Coventry. He later became known as David Ross.
A dramatic play telling his story was performed at Coventry’s Holocaust Memorial Day event in the Lower Precinct in Jan 2011.
