Ernest David Fridlander (1870-1960) was born in Coventry to watchmaker Alfred Fridlander and his wife Flora née Solomon. Ernest David started a scientific career with which he travelled the world. After a long illness he found his life's calling as an artist and poet. He drew and painted many works of art. He wrote hundreds of poems, published in several books. He wrote an autobiography of the Dutch artist Matthew Maris to whom he was very close. He married artist Ellen Ethel Martin. On his death his works were donated to The Herbert Museum, Coventry.
